Who this table is for

You don't have to belong first. Come, and belong here.

Holy Communion is served every Sunday, and it is an open table. Anyone who seeks to respond to Christ's love is invited to partake — no membership, no paperwork, no waiting period.

Filipino, Caucasian, Asian Indian, Ghanaian. Lifelong Methodists and people who haven't set foot in a church in twenty years. Toddlers who won't sit still and grandparents who've sat in the same pew since the sanctuary was built.

The table is Christ's, not ours.

What your first Sunday looks like

Dress however you're comfortable. Bring the kids — we're used to the noise. If you'd rather slip in at the back and just watch, that's a perfectly good way to start.

Before the service

Arrive around 9:50

Ten minutes gives you time for coffee and a hello before we begin. Someone at the door will point you to childcare, restrooms, and a seat.

Communion is open

Come forward or stay seated — either is fine, and nobody is counting. Anyone who seeks to respond to Christ's love is invited.

Services are in English. Our congregation is majority Filipino, with families from across the Bay Area's many communities. Childcare for infants and toddlers; Kingdom Kidz through 6th grade.

Saint Paul UMC is a multi-cultural, multi-generational faith community called to make disciples of Jesus Christ for the transformation of the world. Roughly 250 people worship here each week, including 50–60 children.

We are part of the California-Nevada Annual Conference of The United Methodist Church.

Precious Time Christian Preschool

A multicultural, multi-ethnic preschool community for ages 2 to 6 — where play is taken seriously, because play is how children learn.

Our teachers

Every teacher meets State licensing requirements and holds a Teacher Permit, A.A. or B.A. in Child Development, plus a current Pediatric CPR and First-Aid certificate.

Children are taught the basic concepts of Christian belief and conduct without a denominational slant, in a safe and secure environment where guidance and discipline are just, loving and consistent.

Our story

Sixty years of moving, growing, and staying put

Saint Paul has met in a storefront, a shared sanctuary, a historic chapel and an elementary school before finally building a home on Peace Terrace. The address changed a lot. The mission didn't.

Today we are a congregation with a majority-Filipino membership worshiping alongside Caucasian, Asian Indian, Ghanaian and other families — still growing, still short on classroom space, still planning the Williams Ministry Center that will give our preschool and Kingdom Kidz room to expand.

1963–1964

A new church in Newark

The California-Nevada Annual Conference starts a congregation; Saint Paul UMC is chartered in November 1964 with 84 members in a storefront on Newark Blvd.

1973

Finding our identity

Rev. Maurice Cheek moves the congregation to a historic chapel at St. James Episcopal Church in Fremont.

1984

Land at last

4.4 acres at Lowry Road and Alvarado Blvd purchased together with the Islamic Society of the East Bay.

1990–1991

Tri-City Christian Fellowship joins

Ministry to the area's Filipino community becomes part of Saint Paul's life. Worship moves to Cabrillo Elementary.

1994

Home on Peace Terrace

First worship service in the new sanctuary, on Easter Sunday.

2001

Precious Time Preschool opens

Founded by Deaconess Virginia Maniti Williams, still serving Fremont families today.

2026

Still here, still welcoming

Worship at 10 a.m., dinner at the shelter on Fridays, a preschool full of two-year-olds, and plans for the Williams Ministry Center to give our preschool and Kingdom Kidz room to grow.
